India selects 'Abu' for Oscar run
MUMBAI -- Salim Ahamed's Malayalam-language feature "Adaminte makan Abu" (Adam's Son, Abu) has been chosen to be India's entry in the foreign-language film category of the Oscars.The Film Federation of India chose the film, which won the National Award for best feature. This year the jury of the National Awards recommended that the best feature be sent as India's entry and it appears the FFI agreed.The pic, which toplines Zarina Wahab, Nedumudi Venu and Salim Kumar, charts the travails of an old Muslim couple as they cobble together money to fulfil their dream of going on a pilgrimage to Mecca. "Abu" has been selected for next month's London Film Festival. The deadline for countries to send in their submissions is Oct. 1.
